Egg Carton Supplier Comparison Scorecard

Use this scorecard before an egg carton RFQ to compare suppliers on commercial fit, retail brand needs, operations, documentation, and switching risk instead of unit price alone.

Step 1

Commercial fit

Begin with the buying model so every supplier is compared against the same operating reality.

  • Record minimum order quantity by carton format, artwork design, launch order, and repeat-order rhythm.
  • Compare quoted volume assumptions, destination market, freight model, lead-time path, and sample path before treating unit price as final.
  • Separate current-stock needs from custom printed carton needs so commodity and private-label programs are not scored with the same criteria.

Step 2

Retail and brand fit

  • Score usable print surfaces: lid, front, sides, back, bottom, and inside panels where relevant.
  • Check artwork ownership, barcode and label panel space, finish options, and support for private-label or multi-SKU carton families.
  • Avoid copying a distinctive incumbent carton look without legal and IP review; compare functional requirements rather than trade dress.

Step 3

Operational and documentation fit

  • Compare sample availability, closure, denesting, stacking, humidity/storage behavior, case-pack assumptions, and line-validation path.
  • Request the document packet needed for the buyer route: BRC certified production support, FSC material options, PFAS-free support, food-contact notes, specs, and dielines where applicable.
  • Score who owns approval at each step: procurement, brand, QA, operations, retailer, importer, or legal review.

Buyer answers

Supplier scorecard FAQ

Question

Should buyers compare egg carton suppliers only on unit price?

No. Unit price matters, but procurement should also compare samples, freight, lead-time path, packing-line behavior, artwork support, document packets, and switching risk.

Question

Can Evolo replace an incumbent folded corrugated egg carton supplier?

Evolo can help buyers evaluate custom printed corrugated carton options, prepare samples, and plan validation. Evolo does not use another supplier's brand, trade dress, tooling, CAD files, or confidential know-how.

Question

When should legal or IP review happen?

Legal or IP review should happen before copying a distinctive carton format, shelf presentation, artwork system, or incumbent supplier details, and before making volume commitments in target markets.

Enterprise sourcing

Need cartons for a large egg program?

Share your carton format, annual volume, destination, packing-line model, required documents, and launch date. Evolo will map the practical quote, sample, documentation, and validation path.
